Polio History
The Polio History section is dedicated to preserving the memories of polio
survivors, their families and those that cared for them. We thank those who
have submitted their stories.
The history of polio is still being written as global eradication efforts
continue, but many already have a story to tell. Men and women who survived
polio long ago have unique tales of their personal experiences with a disease
that has affected millions worldwide.
Many scholars will find these personal stories enlightening in regards to
medical treatments of the time.

"I was afflicted with Polio at the age of one. I currently require the use of
“Canadian” crutches and a wheelchair for easier mobility. I have always resided
in the Coe Hill area and I am an ambitious, 38-year-old single mom with three
sons. I own and operate a Bed and Breakfast, and a Health Spa where our guests
can relax, replenish and easily take responsibility for their own health. Being
a very positive person, I enjoy life to the fullest."
